Can men use natural progesterone cream?
Yes. Progesterone is not exclusively a female hormone — it is essential to the health of both men and women. Men produce progesterone in the testes and adrenal glands, and it plays a vital role in male health including testosterone production, prostate health, mood regulation, and neurological function.
Why men may need progesterone:
Modern men are increasingly exposed to environmental oestrogen mimics (endocrine disrupting chemicals found in food, water, plastics, and
skincare products) which suppress natural progesterone levels and drive oestrogen dominance.
Symptoms in men can include:
- Weight gain, particularly around the abdomen
- Gynaecomastia (enlarged breast tissue)
- Low libido
- Fatigue and poor sleep
- Mood changes and depression
- Prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia)
- Declining sperm count and fertility
How much to use:
- General use: 10–100mg/day, applied twice daily
- More frequent application if symptoms are severe
Prostate health:
Progesterone is protective against prostate enlargement. It is oestrogen, not testosterone, that is primarily implicated in prostate disease. Suppressing excess oestrogen with progesterone can significantly benefit prostate health.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI):
In clinical settings, doses in excess of 1,200mg/day have been administered intravenously to men who have suffered traumatic brain injury, demonstrating progesterone's powerful neuroprotective properties.
Men may also experience oestrogen dominance when first using progesterone. As with women, the solution is to increase the amount used, not reduce it.
